Balnaves is so good it won the coveted Winery of the year award in 2008 (Wine Companion). That is saying something, the best winemaker in Australia. It has consistantly been up there according to Halliday.
The 2001 Shiraz is no exception. "Dense hue; exceptional texture; fine tannins woven through luscious blackberry and spice fruit. Rating 95 Drink 2020 Date Tasted Jun 03" James Halliday
The 2001 Balnaves Shiraz is deep red in colour with a purple tint. Lifted notes of sweet fruit, vanilla, liquorice, black pepper and mint. The palate is full and sweet with black fruit, hints of liquorice and pepper. It is well balanced with a build up to a long peppery finish. Very Good. Will age well.

"Grapegrower, viticultural consultant and vigneron, Doug Balnaves has over 50 ha of high- quality estate vineyards. The wines are invariably excellent, often outstanding, notable for their supple mouthfeel, varietal integrity, balance and length; the tannins are always fine and ripe, the oak subtle and perfectly integrated. Coonawarra at its best. Winery of the Year 2008 Wine Companion." - James Halliday, Wine Companion
