"Aged in 70% American and 30% French oak hogsheads, the inky ruby/purple-hued 2002 Shiraz Dove Tail (from a 20-year-old vineyard) offers up aromas of smoke, graphite, vanilla, blackberries, and cassis. A notion of licorice also makes an appearance in the flavors. Full-bodied, with great fruit, a beautiful texture, and a long, heady finish, it should drink well for 7-8 years."

Binder Mitchell is an exciting collaboration between Rolf Binder of Veritas and Kevin Mitchell of Kilikanoon. The pair were attracted to the potential of the new wine region of the Southern Flingers Ranges, north of the Clare Valley. The climate is warm and dry, yet moderated by evening breezes to produce the ripe fruit that Binder and Mitchell like for their sleek, powerful reds with a strong underlying structure supported (but not dominated) by oak.
