Norfolk Rise Vineyard is located on the southern tip of South Australia and is renowned for its rugged coastline, exotic seafood and long, white sandy beaches. Heavily influenced by a unique microclimate, the Norfolk Rise Vineyard captures the specific regional characteristics of Mount Benson in producing cool climate wines of the highest calibre.

Norfolk Rise is one of the most significant wineries in Mount Benson (one of the better known Limestone Coast regions alongside Padthaway and Coonawarra in the south-east). This spectacularly located region, on the southern tip of South Australia, has long been renowned for its rugged coastline, exotic seafood and long, white sandy beaches. Wines are characterised by the cool climate growing conditions, classic soil profile, proximity to the Southern Ocean and maritime breezes, producing elegant, structured wines of the highest calibre. Norfolk Rise was established in 2000 and named after the impressive and dominating plantation of lofty native Norfolk Island Pines. The vineyards are planted on 180 hectares of undulating coastal hills, just 5km from the ocean on terra rossa soils providing an ideal level of nutrient and water retention. The varieties planted on the estate have all been chosen to specifically suit the soils and unique micro-climate.

The winemaking philosophy is to simply embrace, then express the unique characters of our vineyard. ‘Clear varietal definition, generosity of flavour, and an abundance of fruit derived complexity define our style’, Kristen McGann, winemaker.

The wine will cellar well for 10 years, but is drinking very well now.
